Not That Deep...

Hello Lovelies!
So these is the follow up to this post here
The pics were from my pre-pooing the before & after
& I'm going to share what I pre poo'd with for all you lovelies to try!
It's a variation of the one I posted about here

So let;'s get into it.

Ingredients used

-Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque
-Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner (not pictured)
-Tresemme Naturals Conditioner (not pictured)
-1 Egg
-Apple Cider Vinegar
-Vatika Hair Oil
-Burt's Bees Soothing Baby Oil
-Extra Virgin Olive Oil

You can substitute the conditioners for conditioner(s) of your choice.
Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition is a good option
or you can use yogurt or even mayonnaise.
I just used what I had on hand.

Of course you can substitute the oils for what you like as well.
I love to use EVOO in deep conditioners & pre-poos.
Mostly pre-poos.

MMMMMM YUMMY!

Mix it all in a bowl and apply!
I added the Giovanni SAS & Tresemme Naturals because the mixture was too liquid-y for my taste.
I didn't want to finish my SM Masque so I didn't put a lot in the mix.

Did my Fall Hair Regimen as usual

then the next day after my hair dried in the braids
I twisted up my hair with Karen's Body Beautiful Creamylicious.

Candidly Speaking

Hello Lovelies!
Back with another Candidly Speaking & this one is of Elizabeth Berry aka Elizzie954
've known Liz for a couple of years now & I just had to feature her!
She has a YouTube channel that is geared towards curly girls with some beauty vids mixed in.
Be sure to subscribe to her channel here!

Why and when did you start vlogging?

I started my channel, Elizzie954, back in 2008 when I was a senior in high school. I couldn't find many videos of girls with my hair type so I thought it would be fun to do my own product reviews. Soon I was getting questions from other curly girls and mothers on how to style my hair; therefore I started recording tutorials and just kept going from there.

How has your vlog affected you?

My vlog has helped me accept myself and my looks. I was pretty self conscious in school and never seemed to fit in. I tried to control my hair with way too much gel and mousse. Watching my videos from start till now, I see how much happier I am with myself. It's as if I had a lion caged up and finally set it free; it's unnatural to conform to others and the kindness from my viewers/friends helped me unleash myself in a way.

What do you hope to achieve with your vlog?

I want to be able to share my knowledge on curly hair and experiences. I don't want younger girls to have to go through all the tormenting I did for looking different and not fitting in because they don't belong to just one race. Besides sharing tips for hair, I want them to see that they should embrace being unique now so that they can live life for themselves and not others.

Regimen:

I wash my hair 3-4 times per week and I try to use natural shampoos and conditioners. I massage in shampoo only to my scalp then rinse. I then apply conditioner to my hair and detangle with a paddle brush. Then I rinse out the majority of the conditioner and wrap my hair in a microfiber turban to dry until it's damp. After it's dry I run a leave in conditioner through my strands until everything feels smooth and moist. Air dry and that's it.

4 words to describe your hair:

Exotic
Flirty
Lion's Mane
Delicate

5 things that you're loving at the moment:

-Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner
-Lush Cynthia Sylvia Stout Shampoo
-Mark Lipclick in Coral Fixation
-Mark Hand It Over in Plum Berry
-Blue Bell Cookie Dough Ice cream

Stay tuned for her Candidly Speaking feature!

Artiste Spotlight

Greetings Lovelies!
Today's spotlight is on Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker.
The name may or may not be familiar to you... She is the choreographer that Queen Bey ripped off  gained inspiration from for her Countdown video.
De Keersmaker is well renowned in the contemporary dance field & has been in the arena for over 20 years.

I'm researching De Keersmaeker for one of my Uni subjects & came across this video on YouTube.
It is a piece performed by Rosas, De Keersmaeker's company which she founded in 1983.
It was choreographed by Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker for the Maison Martin Margiela+ H&M Designer Collaboration.
I was so excited when I came across this because I love when different arts collide to produce a piece.
It shows that dance, music, art, fashion, theater, film and such are apart of the same family tree.
Check out the video below
Enjoy =)

Fall Hair Regimen

Hello Lovelies!
Since we're almost into Winter (I want it to snow so badly!) I thought I woud share how I've been up keeping this mane of mine for Autumn.
I have a bit of a structured routine unlike in the Summer where I did a lot of wash n gos whenever I felt like it. I have to pay attention to my hair & keeping it healthy in the colder weather.
I do this once a week with a co wash or 2 in between. (I'll do a separate post on that)
Gonna sprinkle some pics of myself throughout the post because no one likes to read without pictures!
Or maybe some do....
Anyhoo, here it goes!

Waddup though?!
Me with an old braid out ready to get on with my routine

Daily Fix of Hair

Today's fix is of Myself =)
This was on my 21st birthday a month ago.
Photography by my dear friend Taps.

bE Wise

Hello Lovelies!
Today is Election Day in the US of A
& from the posts on Twitter & Instagram,
it seems as if most,if not all, are out & about voting!

I planned on posting about this song from before but today it seems even more fitting.
It's the music video for Protoje's latest single Kingston Be Wise off of his EP 'The 8 Year Affair'.

Now I know Kingston is not in America but everyone who is voting today should BE WISE in their decision.

The song is very socially conscious with the lyrical content being based upon the Tivoli Gardens invasion by the Jamaican military 2 years ago.
The sound is very reminiscent of late 80s- early 90s reggae music. It reminded me of a Black Uhuru song.
The visuals for the track are simple yet profound with aerial shots of the different communities of Kingston & with shots of Protoje in Tivoli Gardens.

Kingston, be wise
Kingston, free up your mind
Kingston, just be wise
Kingston, free up the I, yeah

Take inspiration from these words in whatever you do today & tomorrow.
Enjoy =)

Daily Fix of Hair

 Today's fix is of....
ME!

To make up for being gone so long, I figured I should plaster myself all over my own blog.
I love finding photos of other people & their lustrous hair
but what I really love is seeing personal pics on personal blogs.
So let me do what I love to see =)

TeaTime Tidbit

I don't know why but every time I have a cup of tea, I feel as if my senses get going and the neurons in my brain get to racing.

Oh yes, it is called caffeine.
Besides that stimulant, the act of drinking tea makes me feel warm, cozy and gets me to thinking. So I felt inspired to have posts entitled Tea Time Tidbits where I share little nuggets of inspiration & the random going ons in my head.
So brew yourself a cup of whatever you fancy & join me! Comments are always welcome
Cheers!

note: these pics are from January.

The first one is about loving yourself. So cliche but something that needs to be said. Many people out there, women & men, don't love themselves. They have issues with embracing who they are and fully loving all that God gave them. Inside and out.

I figured I would start with the outside. I was checking out Tracee Ellis Ross' website (which is great btw) and she had a wonderful post about breasts. It was about her breasts and the view society has on the way breasts should look. To read click here.
After reading the article, I felt more secure with my breasts. I've always looked at them as not attractive in the nude, that they should be higher up and they look much better in the dark. I didn't really love my boobs. The article was uplifting (no pun intended) because it made me realize God made my boobs, everyone's boobs are different & I should love my boobs!

With that said, love yourself. What you think are imperfections are really what makes you, YOU. Sets you apart from everyone else.

No one is perfect, we're all imperfect so love yourself. You're GREAT!

Colo(u)r

Alo Lovelies!

So this summer I've been experimenting with my hair.  I've done a lot of wash n gos, co washing and all that jazz that I don't normally do. I also decided to play around with some color.
I got bored & really wanted to try it out but not on my whole head. I decided that I wanted to do a streak of golden blonde.
WARNING!
THIS POST IS CHOCK FULL OF PICS!
More deets after the jump.

Artiste Spotlight

She isn't new on the scene
especially to most natural haired ladies

Lianne La Havas.

Her sense of style and amazing hair is what drew me in first then I heard her voice & I was love struck.
She's a Brit.
but of course!
They're so bloody talented.
A friend of mine told me the other day that she reminds him of me and I was extremely flattered.

Anyhoo
I've been listening to her album 'Is Your love Big Enough' these past few weeks and my fav track Forget has visuals.

I love the video & the fun hairstyle she rocks in it.
She ditches her signature side bun for a simple updo with bangs undone.
I think the style is one that can be done casually and for a night out.

Can't wait to try it.
Check out the vid below and cop her album on iTunes!

Hello Lovelies! How art all of you?

I clearly like to do disappearing acts. I took a huge break from this blog.

Why?

Well I simply didn't feel like posting. I did not want to post content on here that I wasn't 100% into. At the end of the day, it is my blog, I post what I feel like and if I don't feel like posting anything... I don't.

I completely embraced Summer and the carefree nature that goes with it and now that Fall is creeping back slowly but surely, I decided to say Hello! before Autumn does :)

I've got some reviews to do of products I've been using over the summer so look out for those.

&

the other random posts I normally do.

What have you all been up to these Summer days?
Excited for Autumn?

This was taken last week Sunday at the beach.
Big ups to my sis for the photo!

Update

Hello my lovelies!!

I've been away for too long :(

I've missed blogging but I wasn't able to keep up with it as much as I thought I would be able to.
My summer job (which is now over) took up a lot of my time.
Then I was always doing stuff that finding time to sit and blog wasn't happening.

I didn't even update my tumblr so yea that bad.

I've been in S. FL for the past month now, soaking up the wonderful sunshine.

I'll post pics in a bit
&&&

get back to posting random things.

How has your summer been going?

Daily Fix of Hair

Today's fix is of Conkarah - Jamaican reggae artiste

Check out his latest single No Barbershop

Treatments and such

Hello Lovelies!

Hope all is well with each and every one of you. Today, this post is about a pre poo treatment I did and thought of sharing with you all.

It all started when I saw a tweet appear on my timeline ( @cinnirox if y'all wanna follow) from Noémie who was featured on MANE-ly Speaking. Check it out here.

She tweeted about doing an egg deep conditioner and how awesome it was for her. I ended up messaging her about it. Yes I know egg treatments aren't new and are very common but I've only done one in my entire life. For homemade protein treatments, I would draw for coconut milk because that was readily available to me rather than eggs.

So we got to chit chatting about the treatment and I asked her what she used. I decided to take her recipe but use it as a pre-poo instead.
Not a person that religiously pre-poos so when something catches my eye that I feel is proper pre-poo material, I hop on it and try it.

So click below the jump for the recipe!

Plastics

Just wanted to share this short film that was done in promotion for VIVID : Plastics
one of Jamaica's top party series.

I featured one of the masterminds behind VIVID - Valon Thorpe. Check out the CANDIDly Speaking here
The marketing behind the parties are always exceptional. They make me want to go but I'm never in Jamaica when they're on.

Check out the film below and if you happen to be in Kingston, check out VIVID tonight at Club Privilege!

Enjoy =)

MANE-ly Speaking

Back with another MANE-ly Speaking!
Check out this gorge gal :)

Who are you?
Ello, ello!! My name’s Brittani but everyone calls me Buni. I’m 22 years old and I’m a Fashion Merchandising major at Miami International University of Art & Design (Whew! Long title … I know!) I’m also a Sales Associate at Sunglass Hut. Originally, I was born in Georgia, but I grew up in the Bahamas where some of my family’s from. I’ve traveled to Europe and all around the U.S. due to my father serving in the Army. <3

3 words you would use to describe yourself.
Innovative, Spontaneous, & Definitely Humorous (I love laughing and giving laughs!) =]P

Why did you go natural?
After high school I wanted a different look. My hair was so damaged, the only thing I could think to do was cut it. So I had my hair cut into a style inspired by Rihanna from Disturbia. It wasn’t until I left for college that I went natural. I was greatly influenced by my roomie Ryan (yes she’s a girl if your wondering lol). I never knew what “natural” meant until I met her. I had only grown up on relaxers. When we met she was already natural. She would style her hair nearly every week and I loved each style. We would go out and people would compliment her hair. I became interested and wanted know what my natural texture looked like. My journey began because of her. She encouraged me, helped do my hair, and was always around when I felt to relapse.

Was it difficult or easy to go natural?
It was definitely a struggle for me, as I said before, I only knew of a relaxer. I was so naïve, I thought relaxers were what ethnic women were supposed to use. So I educated myself (about hair). I never had a big chop; I continuously trimmed my ends throughout my journey. I wore mini braids and hair extensions. For years I’ve struggled with not feeling beautiful. While transitioning I felt pressured to straighten my hair. However, being an aspiring model, I’ve never felt pressured to do so. Surprisingly, agents are looking for girls with natural hair! Although I may appear fully natural, I’m not. The front of my hair is still in transition. That’s the area I would straighten the most when wearing hear extensions. I’ve grown to love my hair! Curls, kinks, and coils!

4 words to describe your mane.
Fluffy, Kinky, Coily, & Free (I swear it has a mind of its own!) >_<

Tell us a little about your regimen.
My regimen is very simple, I promise lol. After washing and conditioning, I would twist out my hair with Shea Moisture’s Curling Soufflé. I wear a satin cap at night (although it tends to end up on the floor in the mornings lol). Then for the day I would either wear a Pineapple Pony (My signature look lol), Bun, or out in a fro (which I don’t do as often because I want more length). ^_^

What have you learned on your natural hair journey?
I’ve learned to be gentle with my hair, how to care for my hair, and to be patient with its growth. I’ve also learned that everyone’s hair react differently to certain products. I’ve found two product brands as well as a regimen that seems to be working for me. I’ve noticed some major growth. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to become a naturalista.

Candidly speaking…(anything else you would like to add)
Yes, it’s everyone’s own personal choice whether to be natural or relaxed, but there’s something exceptionally beautiful about a woman who’s bold and isn’t afraid to be different!! Thanks so much Allison ^_^ my goal is to reach your length someday!!
