Long Time Gyal

I haven't posted in a bit. I blame the Thanksgiving break. I took an insane amount of rest these past couple days and I am so grateful for it. I feel absolutely rejuvenated and its the end of the semester. Wrong timing? Never that. I'm prepared to take my holiday head on =)

Onto a fave topic of mine. HAIR! I've become obsessed with hair ever since I decided to go natural and was in the transitioning process. My sister says I'm a hair nerd, tis fine cuz I'm an overall nerd. Since Christmas break is coming up, I was thinking of popping in some loc extensions. I love the look of locs but I don't like the permanent  factor that goes along with it. I'm sorry but I love me some big hair and I can't have that with locs but thank God its possible for me to rock them for a bit. Hopefully I get to do them and they turn out great *fingers crossed*

My other option is crochet braids. I'm a little weary on that because I've never put in hair before, I love being able to say its all my hair growing from the roots. No hating on weaves now, just isn't really my thing. I've never had a need for them but i do appreciate the versatility it brings. You can try out a hairstyle without committing to it like loc extensions. The crochet braids seem a little different to me, bt I feel like i will try them one day but for right now my heart wants locs!

I came across this blog while researching loc extensions and this chick's work is crazy good. It is called Black Masterpiece. Check it out here

Calme

Richard Calmes is another brilliant photographer whose work I adore.
His work with dancers are right up my alley.
Dance + amazing photography = Happy Cinni :)

Elise Drew, Kile Hotchkiss, Aisha Mitchell, Tyrell Rolle, Natasha Diamond-Walker

This is a fav pic of mine from his work entitled Beautiful Dancers On The Town. Doesn't it speak volumes to you?
Or does it just look familiar?

Its a play off of The Beatles' Abbey Road iconic album cover.

Mr. Calmes is pure genius.
Will feature more of his work on here also. So much talented people in this world!

M.I.A

Alo all!
I haven't posted in a lil. I've been a bit reclusive. Finally go to go home for one night over the weekend.
Was well needed. Spent some time with the Fam and gonna do it all over again come later yay!

I was watching Living Single yesterday and the episode with Eartha Kitt came on. If you don't know who that is, SHAME ON YOU! evidently you live under a huge rock deep deep deep under the Pacific Ocean. Mus!

She was a famous singer and actress known for her role as Catwoman. The role was purrrr-fect for her, she exuded this feline quality that was just so enamoring.
We related in this way lol. Anyways she was rocking turbans in the episode of Living Single and of course turbans seem to be a hit for this season. My prowling on the net, hardly anyone referenced this icon for turban wearing. She rocked them effortlessly!
Probably threw them on when she couldn't be bothered with popping on a wig or something. I don't blame her. I wrap my hair up when i can't be bothered to make it presentable to the world.

Trust, you'll be seeing more of her on this blog. Too wonderful!

Morning Song

Hillsong United- "One Way Jesus"
My Jam. Been blasting it at work for the morning.
Enjoy =)

I lay my life down at Your feet
Cause You're the only one I need
I turn to You and You are always there

In troubled times it's You I seek
I put You first that's all I need
I humble all I am all to You

One way
Jesus
You're the only one that I could live for
One Way
Jesus
You're the only one that I could live for

You are always, always there
Every how and everywhere
Your grace abounds so deeply within me

You will never ever change
Yesterday today the same
Forever till forever meets no end

You are the Way the Truth and the Life
We live by faith and not by sight for You
We're living all for You

#dead

I think I've just died a little inside and gone to a heaven only my mind knows.

So I've this little thing for a photographer by the name of Peter Dean Rickards. The man is genius with a camera and creates sheer art with it. No seriously, his work is amazing and the fact that he's Jamaican adds the final sprinkle to that lovely dessert.
If I ever got the time of the day to work with him, a chapter of life would be complete.

Then there's a model by the name of Nikia Phoenix who is just absolutely art herself. She's gorge to the tenth degree and she's natural, score!

So I just discovered that Mr. Rickards shot Nikia Phoenix. (sounds so wrong)
Ok. they worked together, how about that?

& wires dismantled inside me when I saw the pics. I'm slightly jealous of both of them.
Like how dare both you people who are great in your line of work meet up and combine forces...
Chu.

This is a shot from his piece called 13 Faces of Nikia Phoenix<---check out the rest.

Your motto for life?
"Act like a lady, think like a man."

Ad Again

Hey! Here's the commercial for the week. I love this guy!

I would have him narrate a few chapters from my life, right after that guy from "The Fabulous Life Of.."

I've also provided you with the script to act out along with this burly man. Because who doesn't want to be on a boat where "THE TICKETS ARE NOW DIAMONDS!"  my fave line, couldn't you tell? ;)

"We're not saying this body wash will make your man smell into a romantic millionaire jet fighter pilot, but we are insinuating it"

“Hello, ladies, look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped using ladies scented body wash and switched to Old Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on a boat with the man your man could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an oyster with two tickets to that thing you love. Look again, the tickets are now diamonds. Anything is possible when your man smells like Old Spice and not a lady. I’m on a horse.”

Minnie

This is one of my fave shoots. Chanel Iman channelling Minnie Mouse in an African setting published in Vogue Germany.
I'm a fan of photography, especially fashion photography that is more than just a model and pretty clothes.

vogue-germany-chanel-iman-elephant-2.jpg

She is stunning. Makes you want to run out and look like this.
& climb a tree in heels. I want to climb a tree in heels & look positively radiant.

You too can channel Chanel as she mused Minnie with the "Minnie Muse" collection from Forever 21 that released today.
Gotta love Forever21 for the cheap chic they bring to the masses.
The collection drops just in time for the holidays.

Enjoy =)

Woolf is Present

So I got Mrs. Dalloway from the library today, so excited about it. Read my post on the movie and possibilities of reading the book here. You see the nice illustrated covers of the book I featured....
Well the copy I checked out has neither.

That's what I have in my possession

I love it though. It has so much character. This copy was published in 1925 so imagine the many hands it has passed throughout the years. The stories those hands could tell, who knows what life scenarios were inspired or affected by this copy of the book.

Look at the color of the page. The book has that weathered look I so adore.
I read a couple of pages before heading off to lunch with Munchkiin and the way she writes is similar to how I write. There are a lot of commas, I like the use of commas #dontjudgeme
Also the way the character of Clarissa Dalloway thinks I can relate to. Probably not a good thing since Virginia Woolf was putting a piece of herself in the character, more specifically the bipolar aspect.

I'll of course post when I'm finished with the book. Hopefully i get the time to properly get lost in its pages. For now, life must go on.

Must See

Watch & share.

My amazing ness of a friend Munchkiin gave me a lil shoutout on her blog.

Follow & read her stuff man!

Whale Mail

Mid Afternoon to ya! Its such a beautiful day out in Miami. Sucks that I've been in class for most of it though but tis fine. I enjoyed the weather with one of my besties just sitting outside talking.

After leaving class just now, i checked my mailbox. I'm expecting a package....sent by me :)
I love getting things in the mail and if someone won't do it, then why not me? I didn't see my package slip but i did see mail for my roommates. Made me feel a lil sad inside. Mind you, it was only a birthday card but nonetheless, I WANT MAIL!

Real mail. Snail mail. "Hey Mr, Postman" mail. We've lost all sense of personality in this technological age. Sending and receiving letters is a thing of the past, something that holds a sweet tidbit of this thing we call life. I have a friend by the name of Steffi who loves to send letters. She sent me one from Jamaica last year and i still have it in this little keepsake box of mine. I love little things like that. Letters are so sentimental, it doesn't even have to be 4 pages long. A postcard could even do.

My Daddy used to send my mother, sister & I letters when we were living in Jamaica and he was up here in the States. Sounds romantic and sweet right? Because it is!

Send a letter, postcard, Post-It by mail and make someone's day or even week.
Make it visually appealing too with creative stationery.

I'm going to go order some cute stationary and send a pal a letter.

Enjoy =)

Ting Ting

This is so random but Ting popped up in my mind & I suddenly have a craving for one with some bun and cheese.

Ting??? Bun and Cheese??? What are these things you so speak of Cinni?

Wellll.........
I'M A YAHDIE!! aka Jamaican & these, my uninformed friends, are a few delectable treats that you can find in my homeland =)

Ting is a grapefruit flavored carbonated beverage that is best enjoyed on a hot day.

I can't remember the first Ting I've had. I can tell you though it isn't my first drink of choice. I have to be in a mood to want it and enjoy it. I remember my mother always had a 2 liter bottle in the house when I used to live in Jamaica. I would hate when the only option I had was Ting. I didn't want to be forced with it, I want to make a choice!

I digress.
Its a lovely soda and all should try.
They also have a Pink Ting but I have yet to try that.

Odd really why I haven't seeing as how it isn't available in Jamaica (for some strange reason) I've only seen it in here in South Florida.

Ah! The craving of Ting came about because I thought of the catchy song that was in an ad for it.
I love Jamaican commercials.

ooohhh idea! I'm going to feature favorite commercials of mine. I already started with the Panda Cheese.
Here's the commercial, Enjoy =)

Stil RiRi

Looking like it is RiRi day today.

I decided to take a listen to her new album Loud.

The album has 12 tracks and features 3 big artistes  (Eminem, Drake & Nicki Minaj)
Must say the album surprised me. I was expecting a lot of fist pumping tracks but there was a good mix of different types. Slow beats, stuff to whine you body too ;) & some feel good stuff.

My Fave- Man Down. It has a reggae beat with a little beat of circus type tones.
2nd- What's My Name. It grew on me after seeing the video, idk why.

Mizz RiRi

Thought this was interesting.
Rihanna aka RiRi is now rocking some long weave. Reminds me of when she first came on the scene with that long light brown/honey blond type hair, she looks around that age actually with this new do.

Not sure how I feel about it. I do like it better than what she had going before though.

I loved this look she had

Dreamer

That is what I am. A dreamer, big time. Some may find it a problem, I'm still on the fence about it. The things that go through my mind through the day and night is overwhelming but if made into a movie would provide much entertainment to the masses.
My dreams of lately have been awfully realistic. Not a big fan of that. A recurring theme has been happening and argh. That is my response to it. Argh. ARgh. ArGh. Yes, various forms of Argh.

I dislike dreaming about something that I know for a fact will not happen, well night dreaming. Day dreaming about it really not really because I control it and then I give myself a pep talk that "Hey, it won't happen!"  Sure, the impossible is possible but this impossible will stay impossible. I'm okay with that really I am but my sub-conscience isn't I'm guessing.
I'm sure eventually it will grip reality or maybe its giving me the sheer simple pleasure of dreaming.
We all have dreams and we want them to be reality most of the time. Sometimes we just like to dream because thats all it is. A dream. We like that it isn't real, we don't want it to be. So maybe thats what my mind is doing. I really do like the thought of what keeps happening in my dreams but I don't want it in reality. Too much complexities along with it.
Dreams make things simple. Reality adds the fine print.

The recurring theme? Maybe I'll post about it one day. Maybe.

My name is Cinni & I am a dreamer.

Happy Sunday!

Lets make silly faces at life & smile.

Its too short so enjoy =)

Mrs. Dalloway

I didn't make it to Rent. Go figure. I tried my bestest but sleep got the best of me.
I was going with a friend of mine but sleep took him over as well so I guess it wasn't meant to be today. My plan probably failed due to the movie I decided to watch.

So on to the review!

Mrs. Dalloway
So while watching it, the style of how the film was going made me think it was based off of a book. While I was looking for pictures from the movie to supplement this post, lo and behold I find out it was a book!
That made me even more excited because now I'm going to go to the library and check it out. Its by Virginia Woolf.
The story is centered around Clarissa Dalloway, it takes place in England in the 1920's. The story starts with Clarissa preparing for a party to be held later that evening & the recollections she has on her youth plus other happenings throughout the day. Its set in English society after World War I. There are themes of communication, death, oppression and of course love because love is central to life. It was great picking out motifs in these movie but I know it would be greater in the book.
I don't want to talk about it too much even though if you google it, it'll give away everything but I feel as if people should watch it and/or read it.

I did love the visual aspects of the film. The clothing and  the color palette throughout the movie was soothing and eye catching at the same time. I could not find much pics from the movie though :(
This movie has been added to my wonderful-see list & I cannot wait to get my hands on the book.

Take a trip to the library and check out the book or rent the movie and take a look see.
Hopefully you enjoy =)

She broke my heart, and you can't love like that twice. - Peter Walsh (Mrs. Dalloway)

Up

Its 6:06 AM & I'm up. I got off of work an hour ago.
I blame that Starbucks Mocha Frappucino that I had at like 4.

I need to go to sleep because I want to catch Rent at 2 PM.
FIU's Theatre Dept. is having a production of it & I know two people performing.

Hopefully I make it with this dread awful sleep system my body is developing.
I figure I'll stay up til a certain time, nap, then get ready & go to it.

A movie just started on IFC called Mrs. Dalloway. The description of it sounds like a film right up my alley so I'll watch it then head off to bed. I'm a film addict fyi so I'll randomly write about movies and such.

I'll post back about Rent (if I make it) & about this film.

Enjoy your day! =)

Don't Say No!

Someone put me on to these ads with a panda bear.

Awfully random, ridiculously hilarious.
I always have a chuckle when watching it.

Enjoy =)

Out Loud Thru Keys

This is a run on sentence
Make sense or not
Damaged
Fragments of a whole
Damaged
Don't eclipse my thoughts
Don't press pause

Pause.
I lied, tis allowed. Don't fast forward
You're in for a ride.
Hold on tight if you want, might make it out alive if yu try
Or just lose yourself in this aquarium themepark
But if so you'll miss out on the stars
The infinite air in the surrounding galaxies
HOLD!

Play.
Back to reality, oh there goes gravity..

Only then.

if..
i like to start sentences off with if in my mind.
if brings up the notion of the other side of the plank
the world in the mirror
the possible but impossible at that second.

that moment turned on its back & dragged along on your journey in life
if..

if only..
if I had
if then

then comes maybe.
I like if but not so much maybe.
maybe makes one seem too iffy.
I like if but not to seem too iffy.

funny thing is, I am iffy.
go figure.

if only I wasn't iffy
this post would't happen or maybe it would be about something else.
if only...

God is worthy of all praise, no matter the circumstance.
Praise isn't about me & how I'm feeling, its about God, straight up.

True friends are hard to find.

Bring a Flashlight

One of my devotionals the other day dealt with finding treasure in darkness.
Pretty much saying that every problem has something worthwhile in it & there is a lil treasure box in the darkness we tend to face from time to time.

It isn't going to pop up in our face if we close our eyes & stay still.
Open them & trust God in the midst of the unseen, take a flashlight & see what the dark holds.

"I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name."- Isaiah 45:3

BTW

BTW!

I miss my camera :(

but Cinni, you just posted piccies!
Yesh with my old faithful of a camera I picked up from home.
I've been searching up & down & all around for my current camera's battery charger which
it seems
has grown legs & ran away from me :(

So I figured having one around is better than a dead one but ARGH!

I will continue the search to bring my beloved back to life.

Stay tuned.

The Eve

Well.

I'm sitting under my dryer at 4:00 AM nowhere near dry so blogging i go!

I did have a post typed up on the eve of Halloween but that got scrapped.
I was basically going on that I'm not much of a Halloween type of gal & what not.
Feel no need to rant on about that so I've saved the internet from such dribble.

BUT
I will share piccies because to me a picture really is worth a thousand words.
actually, pictures are more than a thousand words.

actually
that just inspired me to write a thousand word essay on a sole photograph
& it will be posted here.

ah this is so much fun! writitng all this for no one yet hehe ;)

anyways enjoy =)

Halloween '07 as an Emo Faerie.
I thought I was hitting it tho!
